Discover a slice of authentic Japan right in the heart of Frankfurt at Kushiya Ichikawa, a charming Japanese restaurant located on Grempstraße 18. This hidden gem invites you into a welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional izakaya, perfect for those seeking an intimate dining experience or a casual night out with friends.

Kushiya Ichikawa specializes in a delectable array of Japanese cuisine, with a particular focus on grilled dishes and skewers that tantalize the taste buds. As you peruse the menu, don’t miss their signature chicken skewers, which are grilled to perfection—juicy, tender, and imbued with a smoky flavor that transports you straight to Japan. The restaurant also offers a variety of side dishes that reflect the diverse nature of Japanese dining, including the beloved oyako don and comforting Japanese curry rice.

As per customer reviews, the culinary delights here are both enjoyable and authentic. One guest, SweetSerena, remarks on the "very authentic Japanese izakaya cuisine," especially highlighting the expressiveness of their tofu. Meanwhile, Chou Sei appreciates the restaurant's consistent offering of classic dishes that many other establishments overlook. Some diners, like Aynur H and bbo lee, note that while portion sizes may be on the smaller side, the quality of the ingredients—like the incredibly fresh salmon—more than makes up for it.

The cozy, intimate space of Kushiya Ichikawa adds to its charm, creating a backdrop that pairs beautifully with the delicious food. However, due to its popularity and limited seating, it’s advisable to make a reservation to ensure you get a table. As Jacob Lee points out, the venue's limited size means that it can fill up quickly, making a reservation not just a good idea, but a necessity!

For those who appreciate delightful, authentic flavors and a warm atmosphere, Kushiya Ichikawa promises a culinary experience that's not only satisfying but also memorable. From the friendly service to the thoughtfully crafted dishes and the welcoming izakaya vibe, this restaurant is a must-visit for any food lover in Frankfurt.

With a meal here, you’re not just enjoying food—you’re savoring a cultural experience. So gather your friends, book that table, and prepare for an evening of flavors that encapsulate the heart of Japanese cuisine.

A cute authentic Japanese place with a variety of food choices. I don’t think I ordered the best among them but they were still pretty decent. Salmon was very fresh. However, the portion is small and you have to spend quite a fortune to get full.

Such a cute little Japanese restaurant. All dishes servings are quite small, but at the end we got full. Skewers are very nice, but definitely you won’t feel full after only eating them. I personally like the fried squid the most, very crispy outside and chewy inside. Grilled fish was so tasty as well, but it’s tricky to disassemble meat and bones (not for the first date!) Also, I love Japanese beer, and they have Kirin beer and I loved it!

A small but popular restaurant with a variety of choices for side dishes. The portion is small compared to the price. However this is so far the only Japanese restaurant i found that constantly offers oyako don as well as Japanese curry rice, and most of all, they taste really great. Reservation strongly recommended.

Good service, nice vibe, very authentic Japanese izakaya cuisine, most of food we ordered were exceptional, especially tofu is very expressive. But the roasted A5 wayu beef is a little bit disappointed. Overall very recommend.

This small Japanese restaurant tucked along a quiet street specializes in chicken skewers and grilled food. The menu is a little on the pricier side, but the food is delicious, the service friendly, and the drinks, comprising of Japanese cocktails and longdrinks, tasty. The only problem is the small venue, which means that reservations are necessary, otherwise you might come by and find yourself without a table.

Part of me doesn’t want to share this review because I hope it doesn’t get more popular. We came here for dinner on Saturday and had a great meal and night. We did make reservations and would highly recommend everyone do the same, only about nine tables total in the place. We enjoyed looking at all the pictures on the wall of the food and that helped us see what other tables had ordered and we even started a list of what to order next time. My husband came here for the wagyu beef and got the 150g order and said it was delicious. I got the sukiyaki udon and it was also amazing. We ordered quite a few small plates because I was curious as well: gyoza (almost perfect), arabiki uinna (I liked these but admittedly pricey for serving size), dashimaki or Japanese omelette (so fluffy) and then for dessert we got the sweet potato ice cream which hit the spot. Cannot wait to come back and try more off their menu! This was one of the better restaurants we’ve had in Frankfurt and we’ve now been to quite a few. Just as a heads up, the reservations for the table are typically for two hours if that helps with planning your night!
